Adoption
Another Chance

Palmetto Horse & Hound supports the rescue and adoption of animals.  Palmetto Horse & Hound's family has rescued seven animals over the years and they have received so much love and joy from these animals because they were given a second chance.

There are many adoptable pets that are euthanized each year due to lack of shelter, budget, etc.  In an effort to help minimize that number, Palmetto Horse & Hound will periodically feature pets and their stories to help them find a new home.

If you come across any pets who need another home, please send us the information and we will be more than happy to post it on this page.

Millie and Okie lived outside in a pen their entire lives, but today, their lives changed forever. For the past 2 yrs, the owners have been physically unable to care for them and paid someone to feed them daily. The amount of attention they've had from people has been minimal. They've never even been taken for a walk. : (  Thankfully they are both social, sweet dogs. They are up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed/neutered and a little overweight. Millie, the black/white one, is 9 and Okie is 3. Okie has never lived without Millie and we see how much he depends on her and loves her.

Homeward Bound Pet Rescue in Irmo SC and SQ Rescue in Columbia partnered to save this pair and rescued them from the pen today!  They are together for now, but if we can't find a foster or adoptive home to take both, they will be separated late next week with each rescue taking one. With neither rescue having a foster home available, this is the best we can do at this time.

Please share this with your friends. Maybe someone will see these precious ones and open their home to both. They have always been outside, but would love to the opportunity to come inside with a loving family.

Contact HomewardBoundRescue@hotmail.com or porourke@sc.rr.com for more info or to help these sweet pups.

Thanks!!

Chester is a wonderful 40 lb, 1 yr old Pointer mix, who has been waiting for months to find his forever home.  We can't figure out what's taking so long. He is missing a front leg, but trust us, it does not slow him down one bit. He LOVES to run and play!!
Chester's foster home can no longer keep him, so we're having to pay to board him. Chester is so loving, we hate that he's not in a home where he can enjoy a doggie playmate and lots of hugs from people. If you know anyone who can foster Chester, or give him a forever home, please let us know ASAP. He is trained to use a doggie door, goes up and down deck steps, is well behaved, loves to be smothered with affection and can run like the wind.

Thanks.

Gus is a 4 year old, neutered, Chow/Lab mix.  Gus is house-trained, knows commands, likes to ride in the car, and very smart. He also loves to play ball. He is a very loving and friendly dog.  Unfortunately, Gus does not do well living with other dogs.  He gets along very well with humans. If you are interested in adopting Gus or know someone who might be, please let us know.  Contact Palmetto Horse and Hound for more details.

I have taken in four puppies and need help placing them. I took 4 lab/boxer/blue heeler mix puppies when they were only a week old. Their mother died and the owner of the mother was going to take them to the shelter, where they did not stand a chance that young and without a mother. I had to step in and help these babies. I bottle feed them for a few weeks and now they are eating mush, which is soaked dog food.

They are now 5 weeks old (Feb 10) and I plan to adopt them out when 7-8 weeks old. They have been dewormed with ponazuril, anthleban and panacur. They will have had their first set of vaccines before they go out. I am asking for a $85 donation to go towards their medical cost.

Ivy- sold black, female
Mac- brindle, female
Christian- black and white, male
Kendle- black and white female

Please forward this to your friends, family and co-workers.

I am reaching out for your help in finding the last puppy a home. Her three siblings were able to get wonderful homes!! Now she needs one!

Birdie is a female, Old English Sheepdog/Lab mix, 33lbs, about 4-5 months old, great in the house (no accidents), loves toys, learned a dog bed and the couch are very comfy, adores toys, loves other dogs, ignores the cat, she most shy out of the four pups but warms up to you quickly, as you can see by the third picture she likes to help out with yard work (she helped me put out mulch last week)

Birdie and her siblings lived outside in a small pen before I got them without a cover and no dog house. When it snowed the day after Christmas they were out in it. Considering what lack for human care they had they are very sweet, friendly and smart. If you know of a friend, family member or co-worker that may be interested let me know. They were fixed earlier this week, vaccinated, dewormed, on heartworm prevention/flea control and have a microchip placed (a copy of everything will be given to new owner). I am asking for an adoption fee to help cover some of the medical cost.
She can also be seen on the Rural Roads Animal Rescue website: www.rrar.petfinder.com
If interested please email Lindsey at strmgirl@aol.com or call (803)309-5221.
Thank you in advance for passing along! I could not have found homes for the others without wonderful people like you!

Male dog found looks to be about 5-6 years old, spaniel mix. He’s as sweet as he can be, very gentle and well-tempered.  We’re going to keep him in the backyard in the shade for a couple of days but just can’t keep him any longer with the other animals. I have contacted a few shelters and no one seems to have room right now (although I’ll put him on waiting lists). I wondered if you would mind to pass this along to anyone you might think would be interested.

I really want to find a home or a no-kill shelter for him, but I’m afraid that if it takes any longer than a few days we’ll have nowhere to go besides the pound.

Any help would be appreciated!!  Please Contact Emily Allen at eallen@scacpa.org
Three puppies were dumped in friend's neighborhood.  These guys need a loving home.  Do not have any background on them other than the puppies are around 3 - 4 months old.  They are in good shape.  They are very social, love playing.  There is 1 female and 2 males.  They get along great with other dogs.  They are being really good about house training.  Please contact DeAnn for more information at dconkli2@csc.com
